Meeting at the airport. Night flight to Kazan (2h). Arrival to Kazan. Accommodation at the hotel.

Kazan - one of the largest cities of Russia, more than a million people call it home. Kazan is considered one of the cultural and economic centers of the Volga region. Kazan was founded more than 1 000 years ago by the ancient Bulgars at the intersection of trade routes between Europe and Asia. In the 16th century, Ivan the Terrible conquered Kazan and annexed it to the territory of Russia. Today Kazan officially is the third capital of Russia. During the tour, we will discover the amazing history of Kazan. Old mansions, trading houses, industrial and cultural buildings of the 19th and early 20th centuries form the historic city centre, we will stroll along the pedestrian Bauman street, Old-Tatar settlement, Marjani Mosque, Kaban Lake, Tatar Drama Theatre, Millennium park, Bulak Canal, foot Bauman St.

The Kazan Kremlin is the unique Complex of Archeological, Historical and Architectural Monuments arisen and functioning from the basis of a city up to now. In 2000 year the Kazan Kremlin has been included into the List of the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Objects of the Complex are under the authority of the “Kazan Kremlin State Historic-Architectural and Art Museum Reservation”.

The Qol Sharif Mosque is the Greatest Mosque within the territory of Russia. It has been constructed in 2005 year due to the date of celebrating the Kazan Millennium. The Annunciation Cathedral is the Monument of History and Architecture of XVI century. It was open after restoration. There is the Architectural Symbol of the city which is located in the Kremlin. It is the Soyembike Tower, the one of a few "falling" towers in the world.


Excursion to the Sviyajsk. It is located at the confluence of the Volga and Sviyaga Rivers. It is often referred to as an island since the construction of the Kuybyshev Reservoir at Tolyatti downstream Volga in 1955, but it is in fact connected to the mainland by a road. Sviyazhsk was founded in 1551 as a fortress, which was built within four weeks from parts made in Uglich and transported down the Volga. It became a military base of the Russian army during the siege of Kazan (1552). Since the 15th century, Sviyazhsk served as a center of an uyezd. In 1920-1927, it was a center of Sviyazhsky Kanton; in 1927-1931--the administrative center of Sviyazhsky District. In 1932, it was demoted to rural status.

Dinner.  Transfer to the hotel.

Day 3


Excursion The Raifa Bogoroditsky Monastery. The Raifa Bogoroditsky Monastery is one of the most beautiful sites in Tatarstan. The Monastery was founded in the 16th-17th centuries. The ancient cloister is located on the bank of a beautiful lake and surrounded by virgin forests. Anyone approaching the monastery can contemplate a wonderful harmony of the architectural ensemble, crenellated walls of white stone, the Gate bell-tower looking into the sky, golden crosses on the green and sky-blue temple domes.

Lunch. Transfer to airport. Arrival to Saint-Petersburg.
